Scarlet Rage Vintage Shop Party

Sellers range from Lolita-esque can-can skirts spilling out from alternative clothing sellers, two-tone brogues made from the finest leather, and even a stall filled with fish-tanks offering fish pedicures. Walking past all these, at the far end of the market the bright lipstick red and twinkling lights of Scarlet Rage Vintage greeted me.

After a very successful two years with the Crouch End shop, Jade decided to open this second shop here in Camden. She muses that it was like a home-coming opening the shop in Camden, as her mother used to trade in the same area back in the 1970s. The party was hosted by the glamorous Vanessa Frankenstein, who simply exudes old-school Hollywood glamour. What started out as email exchanges between Jade & Vanessa has led to a brilliant professional partnership, and it’s clear to see; a personal friendship between the two ladies. When plans were being put in place to throw this party, Jade knew she wanted Vanessa to host the evening straight away.

Vanessa lives in Germany, and has modelled for many reproduction vintage clothing companies, some of her favourites being Collectif; and new label Mädchentraum Fashion. She describes her personal style as sexy and edgy, mixing classic pieces with more unexpected contemporary prints. As her name suggests; Vanessa is a fan of classic horror movies, indeed she lives near to ‘Frankenstein’s Castle’ in Germany, where she excitedly tells me they have special events on for Halloween – what a party that would be! All of the stock in Scarlet Rage is extremely high-quality, something which is unusual with vintage shops. This is a result of Jade individually hand-picking each and every item herself, from all over the world. She flys to France, Germany & America to name but a few countries, sourcing the best vintage stock from the 1920s to 1950s.

The Camden shop is certainly well-placed, as the Stables Market is huge.

When it comes to vintage clothing shops, Scarlet Rage Vintage has certainly carved out a name for itself. The original shop is based in London’s Crouch End, and shop owner Jade Stavri has recently opened a second shop in Camden’s Stables Market. I decided to pop down to the launch party of the Camden shop to ask Jade a few questions, and also interview the event host, Vanessa Frankenstein.

As Jade is so well-versed in vintage (a lady after my own heart!) I simply had to ask her what her favourite era is. The 1940s and 1950s came out as Jade’s first choice, as clothes were cut for real women back then, everything fitted properly and hugged curves, not tried to hide them. And, of course, the fabrics were amazing back then too, featuring wonderful prints and embellishments. So, with a thriving website, and now two successful shops to her bow, I was eager to know what Jade had up her leopard printed sleeves next.

Based on the quality of stock, I think we can expect even more beautiful items, and Jade explained to me that both shops are always changing and evolving, with buying trips on a monthly average basis. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see more Scarlet Rage Vintage shops opening; as this lady is taking over the world one vintage dress at a time.
